Charities

The ethos of the original picnic remains. However, happily now as a by-product of the gathering, Classics on the Common raises, in one half-day, a significant amount of money for charity.

As the event has grown, so the charitable giving from the proceeds of the event has grown. Since inception, more than £60,000 has been distributed to national and local charities and other good causes.

A record £17,000 was raised in 2011, thanks to the generosity of vehicle owners and the public. This was distributed to St Francis Hospice, the National Deaf Children's Society, WaterAid and other deserving causes. £1000 was also sent to the Disaster Emergency committee's Horn of Africa appeal.

In 2012 we shall be supporting the following charities:
• Keech Children’s Hospice – www.keech.org.uk
• Harpenden Mencap – www.harpendenmencap.org.uk
• Mercy Ships – www.mercyships.org.uk

and other good causes supported by Rotary.

We encourage any vehicle owner who is also a UK taxpayer to tick the Gift Aid box on the Application Form. This enables us to claim from the tax man an extra 25% of the value of your entry fee donation, without any extra cost to you, and increases the amount we are able to donate to charity
